Description

Melbury Beacon is a historic signal lighthouse dating back to the threat of the Spanish Armada in 1588. Located on Melbury Hill (263 meters above sea level), it offers breathtaking panoramic views of Blackmore Vale and Cranborne Chase.

It is a site of exceptional historical significance - it was part of a signaling chain stretching from London to Plymouth, serving as a communication system in times of national emergency.

At the summit is a triangulation point used for cartographic measurements. The surrounding area is stunning in its natural beauty of chalk hills and is part of the landscape described in Thomas Hardy's novels.
