Description
Mahee Castle is a picturesque 16th century defensive tower ruin located on the island of Mahee in Strangford Lough, Northern Ireland.
Built around 1570 by Captain Thomas Browne, the castle was a strategic defensive point in times of border conflict. The three-story building impresses with its medieval architecture, including the original 'murder-hole' - an opening to defend the entrance.
In 1923, restoration work was carried out that saved the castle from further deterioration. Today, it's a great place for history and architecture lovers, also offering picturesque views of the bay - perfect for photography enthusiasts.
