Description

Judenplatz Holocaust Memorial is a moving memorial in the heart of Vienna, also known as the 'Library Without Names'.

Designed by British artist Rachel Whiteread, it depicts a concrete cube with library shelves turned inside out, symbolizing the unread and lost stories of Holocaust victims.

The pedestal is engraved with the names of the concentration camps where some 65,000 Austrian Jews perished. Beneath the monument are the excavations of a medieval synagogue destroyed in 1421, adding an additional historical dimension to the site.
