Description
Jelling Mounds, Runic Stones and Church is a unique historical monument symbolizing Denmark's transition from pagan Norse beliefs to Christianity.
Two impressive barrows, two runic stones and a white church form a complex of great cultural significance. The largest runic stone, erected by King Harald Bluetooth, commemorates the unification of Denmark and Norway and the introduction of Christianity, presenting the oldest representation of Christ in Scandinavia.
At night, the engravings on the stones are more visible, adding to the site's mysteriousness. Wear comfortable shoes to climb the barrows and visit the nearby Kongernes Jelling museum, which offers a fascinating journey into the Viking era for free.
