Description
Isartor is one of the four main gates of Munich's medieval city walls, built in 1337. It is the only gate to retain the original main tower, restored between 1833 and 1835.
It is decorated with frescoes depicting Emperor Ludwig's triumphant return after the Battle of Mühldorf. Inside is a humorous museum dedicated to comedian Karl Valentin and a cozy Turmstüberl café.
It's an excellent starting point for exploring Munich's old town and an important part of the historic Salt Route.
