Description
Helmsdale War Memorial is an impressive monument in the form of a clock tower, built around 1920. The distinctive three-tiered structure with projecting elements is a moving tribute to the fallen of World Wars I and II.
The monument bears the names of the fallen soldiers along with their regiments, giving it a personal touch. In 1999, the local community carried out a significant restoration project, saving the monument from deterioration.
While visiting the site, it is also worth seeing the nearby Timespan Museum and Arts Centre and the Emigrants Statue commemorating the Highland Clearances.
