Description

Glamis is a fascinating castle in Scotland with a rich history dating back to the 11th century. The impressive French château style building impresses with its unique architecture with walls 5 meters thick hiding secret chambers and secret passageways.

The site is famous for its dark legends, including tales of the Monster of Glamis and Lord Beardie. The castle has ties to royalty - it was the childhood home of Queen Mother Elizabeth and the inspiration for Shakespeare's 'Macbeth'.

Surrounded by picturesque gardens and parkland, it offers an unforgettable experience for lovers of history, architecture and mystery.

avatarMatthew Hoffmanna month agoLoved this castle. As with most castles, unless you are familiar with it, there is just too much history to learn and absorb. However, after the guided tour we had time to roam. Great views and full details of observations. A guide really isn't needed but they usually do a good job of the highlights.
avatarJacopo Casiraghia month agoA beautiful castle with a garden and large open spaces. Very scenic especially the long road to get to the castle. The shop is beautiful because on the second floor they sell vintage objects. Also near the parking lot there were six highlander cows!
avatarMartin Baumeistera month agoA wonderful visit to Glamis Castle—highly recommended! We booked our tickets online in advance. The confirmation showed the wrong date (apparently a common issue), but it didn’t cause any problems at all. You drive up to the entrance where your tickets are checked, then follow a scenic driveway that leads directly to the castle. Free parking is conveniently located behind the building. Guided tours run every 30 minutes and are included in the ticket price. Our guide, Clooney, was excellent—knowledgeable, engaging, and full of fascinating stories about the castle’s history and residents. Photography is not allowed inside, as the castle is still privately owned and home to the Earl of Strathmore, so just relax and enjoy the experience. After the tour, we visited the beautiful Italian Gardens and took the Macbeth Trail, which I highly recommend. You’ll come across whimsical wooden sculptures, a historic pet cemetery, and some great vantage points to view the castle. It’s a peaceful walk and a nice way to explore the grounds at your own pace. Don’t miss the Kitchen or Walled Garden areas. There are several picnic tables if you’d like to bring lunch. The greenhouses are currently in disrepair but plans are underway to restore them in the coming years. It’s a lovely place overall—rich in history, beautifully maintained, and well worth the visit.
