Description
Farol da Ponta da Piedade is a historic lighthouse built in 1913, rising 51 meters above sea level in picturesque Lagos, Portugal.
The red-light stone tower stands on the site of the former hermit church 'Nossa Senhora da Piedade'. Originally equipped with a fourth-order Fresnel lens, the lighthouse emitted five flashes every ten seconds and had a range of 18 nautical miles.
The surrounding rock formations, caves and caverns can be admired while walking along the cliffs or explored by boat or kayak. The view is particularly beautiful at sunset, when the cliffs take on a golden hue.
