Description
Huniade Castle is the oldest surviving building in Timișoara, a testament to the rich history of medieval Romania. Built in the 14th century by King Charles I Robert and later expanded by John Hunyadi, it combines elements of the Romantic and Neo-Gothic styles.
Built around a quadrangular courtyard with cylindrical corner towers, the castle has served various functions over the centuries, from a noble residence to military quarters to an artillery barracks.
Today it houses the National Museum of the Banat, offering a fascinating journey through the history, archaeology and natural sciences of the region.
