Description
Blackness Castle is a fascinating 15th-century fortress on the south shore of the Firth of Forth in Scotland. Known as the 'ship that never sailed' because of its distinctive ship-like shape.
The castle served as a royal fortress, state prison and military garrison. Its advanced 16th century artillery fortifications make it one of the best-preserved examples of medieval defensive architecture in Scotland.
The site has gained popularity as a film location, appearing in productions such as 'Outlander', 'Hamlet' and 'Mary Queen of Scots'.
