Description
Maria Theresa's Bastion is the largest surviving part of the former Timișoara fortress, named after Archduchess Maria Theresa of Austria. This impressive example of a Vauban-style fortification from the 18th century hides a fascinating history and many functions.
In the past, it served as a warehouse, the residence of a Catholic bishop and even a fencing school. Today it houses restaurants, bars, a library and two permanent exhibitions of the National Banat Museum and the Ethnography Department of the Banat Village Museum.
It is an ideal place for lovers of history and culture, where the past blends harmoniously with the present.
