Description

Badenweiler Castle is the fascinating ruins of a medieval fortress dating back to the 12th century, built by the Dukes of Zähringen. The stone building offers unforgettable views of the Rhine Valley and the distant Vosges Mountains.

The oldest part of the castle is the Palas (great hall) with its late Romanesque arched windows. It is interesting to note that materials from Roman thermal baths were used in the construction, which initially led to the misconception of the castle's Roman origins.

Destroyed by French soldiers in 1678, the castle was restored in 1982 and 2004 to protect the ruins and ensure the safety of tourists.
