Description
Admiral Hood Monument is an imposing 33.5-meter Tuscan-style monument erected in 1831 to honor Sir Samuel Hood, a British hero of the Napoleonic Wars.
Inspired by Trajan's Roman column, the Doulting stone structure is topped with a laurel wreath and a nautical crown consisting of the carved sterns of four galleons.
The monument is decorated with inscriptions describing the admiral's naval career and his merits. It is an excellent destination for lovers of naval history, neoclassical architecture and anyone interested in British cultural heritage.
