Description
West Kennet Avenue is a fascinating prehistoric avenue consisting of two parallel lines of stones, forming a ritual connection between the Neolithic sites of Avebury and The Sanctuary.
It originally consisted of about 100 pairs of standing stones, 27 of which remain upright and 37 marked by concrete pillars. The stones range from 1.6 to 3.3 meters high and are spaced about 25 meters apart.
Excavations have revealed that the site dates back to around 2200 BC. The alley's winding path and its connection to other Neolithic sites make it a unique part of the prehistoric landscape.
