Description

Waddesdon Manor is an impressive French Renaissance-style palace built for Baron Ferdinand de Rothschild. This architectural gem impresses with its extensive art collection, including paintings by Dutch masters, Reynolds and Gainsborough.

A unique feature is the carpet commissioned by Louis XIV for the Louvre, measuring almost a quarter of a mile in length! The palace boasts modern facilities for its time - running water, central heating and electricity introduced in 1889.

For families, there is a playground, walking paths and a variety of dining options.

avatarMark Jakemanin the last weekWe were very impressed with the breadth and volume of the furniture and artifacts within the house. We had visited Waddesdon Manor on two other occasions but hadn't been inside the house. We thought that maybe only a few rooms would be open to the public as per other historic houses but Waddesdon contained a labyrinth of rooms to visit across three floors. The interior is in fantastic condition and each room contains an amazing amount of original furniture along with other rooms containing a big selection of other items from the Rothschild collection, they seem to have purchased a vast amount from the homes of French nobility after the French Revolution. We allowed an hour for the visit inside the house based on our experience in other historic houses but we must have spent an hour and 45 minutes inside and we didn't really dwell for too long in any one room. The guidebook and in room information was excellent and the volunteer guides added some great extra 'colour'. The gardens were well presented with very attractive seasonal planting amidst lovely landscaped grounds. The food outlets were reasonably priced for a captive audience and every staff member/volunteer we spoke to were friendly and helpful.
avatarMatthew Brookes3 weeks agoAnother gem for the national trust to be looking after a big playground for the kids or adults toilets 🚻 spotless and clean dogs allowed on the land but not in the house and only on the outside of the cafe. A small car park free for members and blue badge holders £4 elsewhere. A big picnic area gets busy on hot days and school holidays. Cafe as normal national trust fair. Routes are long and good 👍
avatarPaul Almond3 months agoFantastic stately home. Home to the Rothschild family. Many artefacts with very ornate rooms. Fantastic and immaculately kept gardens. Bus ride up the hill to the house from the car park is worth it if you don’t fancy the half hour walk.
