Description
Torre del Conde is a fascinating 15th century fortress, one of the oldest medieval structures in the Canary Islands. This 15-meter-high tower with 2-meter-thick walls is an exceptional example of Gothic military architecture.
Built between 1447 and 1450 by Hernán Peraza the Elder, it initially served as a protection against native uprisings. Over time, it served as a shelter, warehouse and even a powder store.
It hosted such notables as Christopher Columbus, Amerigo Vespucci and Hernán Cortés. The surrounding park with a children's playground makes it an ideal place for family recreation.
