Description
** Charlemagne's throne** is one of Europe's most important historical monuments, located in Aachen Cathedral.
This marble throne, made from slabs believed to have come from the Church of the Holy Sepulchre in Jerusalem, was used to crown thirty-one German kings from the 9th century until 1531.
It is part of the Palatine Chapel, an octagonal building with beautiful mosaics, marble columns and precious stones, reflecting the artistic achievements of the Carolingian Renaissance.
It symbolizes the medieval power and unity of Europe under the Holy Roman Empire.
