Description
Poyi Kalon is a monumental architectural complex in the heart of Bukhara, dominated by the 47-meter-high Kalon Minaret from 1127—an engineering marvel built on a foundation of bull's blood, camel milk, and eggs.
Legend has it that Genghis Khan himself spared this building during the siege in 1220, fascinated by its beauty. The minaret has survived the centuries as a beacon of the Silk Road and a place of execution, from which convicts were thrown down. Today, it offers breathtaking views of the city, and the Kalon Mosque with its blue dome still gathers the faithful.
