Description
Porta Napoli is an impressive triumphal arch from the 16th century that is one of Lecce's most distinctive buildings in Italy.
Erected in 1548 by architect Gian Giacomo dell'Acaya, it measures as much as 20 meters high and impresses with a neoclassical design that stands out against the city's Baroque architecture.
The arch is decorated with fascinating bas-reliefs depicting weapons, armor and the Habsburg coat of arms, which were created in honor of Emperor Charles V. It is the perfect starting point for exploring the charming historic center of Lecce.
