Description
Ponte Vecchio is the oldest bridge in Florence, connecting the banks of the Arno River since Roman times. This architectural marvel has survived numerous floods and is the only bridge in the city that was not destroyed during World War II.
It is famous for its distinctive jewelry and goldsmith stores, which replaced the former stalls of butchers and fishermen by decree in 1593. Walking on the bridge, one can admire the unique balconies with lower arches and the Vasari corridor - a secret passage connecting Palazzo Vecchio with Palazzo Pitti.
It's the perfect place to take a romantic stroll overlooking the river and shop for unique jewelry.
