Description

The memorial dedicated to the victims of the 1971 refinery fire is an important memorial site commemorating one of the greatest industrial tragedies in post-war Poland.

The monument is located on the square between Ks. J. N. Barabasz and Niepodległości Streets, where a granite plaque was unveiled in 2011, and in 2018 plaques were added with photos of the 37 victims of the tragic fire and a detailed description of the events.

The memorial features a quote by Rev. Wit Pasierbek: 'They did not die, because the memory of the Dead remains in the memory of us - the living', which reminds us of the importance of collective memory for the local community.
