Description

The Old Fort is the oldest building in Stone Town, a 17th-century coral fortification that now serves as a cultural center. Inside, you'll find an open-air amphitheater that hosts film and music festivals, including the famous Zanzibar International Film Festival and Sauti za Busara.

The fort has a rich history—built by the Omanis on the site of a Portuguese church, it has served as a garrison, a prison, and even a railway station.

Today, you can admire the massive walls, visit the art gallery, and buy handicrafts from local artists, while the fort's battlements offer a picturesque view of the Forodhani Gardens and the ocean.
