Description
Memorial to May 10, 1933 Nazi Book Burning is a moving memorial to a tragic event in German history, when the Nazis burned more than 20,000 books deemed 'non-German'.
Designed by Israeli artist Miha Ullman, the memorial depicts an underground library with empty bookcases, visible through a glass panel in the ground.
Next to it are bronze plaques bearing Heinrich Heine's warning: 'This was only an introduction; where they burn books, they will eventually burn people too.' This symbolic object prompts reflection on the danger of censorship and the importance of intellectual freedom.
