Description
Maharajah's Well is a unique 368-foot deep well, built in 1863 by the Maharaja of Benares as a gift to the residents of Stoke Row.
Decorated with an Indian temple-style dome, this unusual structure is a fascinating example of the cultural exchange between India and England in the 19th century.
The well is surrounded by a beautiful Ishree Bagh garden with a plantation of cherry trees, the fruit of which traditionally provided funds for the well's upkeep.
It is a great place for lovers of history, architecture and heritage.
