Description
The Mausoleum of Ismail Samani is the oldest Islamic monument in Bukhara, built in the 10th century as the tomb of the founder of the Samanid dynasty. The perfectly symmetrical cube-shaped building impresses with eighteen types of decorative brick patterns that create mesmerizing plays of light and shadow. The unique structure combines Sogdian, Persian, and Byzantine traditions, and owes its survival to the desert sand that hid it from the Mongol invasions. A true architectural gem for history and photography enthusiasts.
