Description
Fountain and Plague Column is a unique monument in the heart of Český Krumlov, a UNESCO-listed city.
The Baroque column, dating from 1714-1716, commemorates the end of the plague epidemic. At the top of the Corinthian column is a statue of the Virgin and Child, and around it are statues of eight saints - patron saints of the city and defenders against the plague.
Next to it stands a stone fountain from 1843, which replaced the old Renaissance one. It is an ideal place for history and art lovers to admire the artistry of Prague sculptor Matěj Václav Jäckel.
