Description
Drombeg Stone Circle is a fascinating Bronze Age monument, dating back to around 1100 BC. This perfectly preserved stone circle consists of 17 standing stones and is considered one of the most important archaeological sites in Ireland.
The site has unique astronomical significance - the positioning of the stones indicates the sunset during the winter solstice. During excavations in 1957, a vessel containing the ashes of a young person was discovered here.
Near the circle is a fulacht fiadh (an ancient cooking area) and the remains of stone huts, providing a fascinating insight into the life of Bronze Age people.
