Description
The City Walls in Sibiu are a fascinating monument of medieval defensive architecture, dating back to the 14th-16th centuries. They are part of an elaborate fortification system that once surrounded the entire Upper City and included 39 towers, each protected by a different craft guild.
The best-preserved section is between the Carpenters' Tower and the Potters' Tower, where one can admire the extensive arcades and wooden balustrades. Of particular interest is the balcony-like structure opposite the Carpenter's Tower, which was used for observation and strategic positioning of defenders.
