Description
Castell Cydweli / Kidwelly Castle is an impressive medieval fortress in Wales that impresses with its well-preserved defensive architecture.
Built by the Normans in the 12th century, the castle has a square inner courtyard defended by four round towers and a semi-circular outer defensive wall.
The site is noted in the history of battles between the Welsh and the English, as well as in pop culture - the first scene of the film 'Monty Python and the Holy Grail' was filmed here. Walking around the castle, you can feel the spirit of the Middle Ages and enjoy picturesque views of the Gwendraeth estuary.
