Description
Albert Memorial Clock is an iconic clock tower in downtown Belfast, built between 1865 and 1869 as a memorial to Prince Albert, husband of Queen Victoria.
This 113-foot Gothic structure is famous for its distinctive lean - the top of the tower deviates more than a meter from vertical! The reason for this is that the foundations are set on wooden stilts on swampy ground.
The tower is decorated with a full-size statue of Prince Albert in the robes of a Knight of the Order of the Garter and a two-tone bell. After extensive restoration in 2002, this landmark is once again shining in its full glory, serving as one of Belfast's most recognizable symbols.
