Description
Abraham Lincoln The Man - Monument is an impressive 12-foot bronze sculpture of a standing Lincoln, created by the famous Irish sculptor Augustus Saint-Gaudens in 1887.
The monument depicts a thoughtful president, as if preparing to deliver a speech. Details of the face and hands have been reproduced from plaster masks made during Lincoln's lifetime, giving the sculpture a remarkable realism.
Surrounded by a semicircular exedra designed by architect Stanford White, the monument is an important part of Chicago's cultural landscape and is considered one of the most important achievements in American sculpture.
