Description
Highclere Castle is a majestic Jacobean-style castle that gained worldwide fame as the set of the 'Downton Abbey' TV series.
The seat of the Earls of Carnarvon since 1793, this historic estate impresses not only with its impressive architecture designed by Sir Charles Barry, but also with a fascinating Egyptian exhibition. The exhibit is dedicated to the discovery of Tutankhamon's tomb by the 5th Earl of Carnarvon and Howard Carter in 1922.
Surrounding the castle, the more than 2,000-acre park, designed by the famous Capability Brown, offers picturesque landscapes and a variety of natural habitats.
