Groty Dziesięciu Tysięcy Buddów

The Return of the Ten Thousand Buddhas is a fascinating complex of Buddhist temples carved into the rock near the city of Luoyang, China.

This remarkable site impresses with more than 142 thousand sculptures of Buddhas and bodhisattvas, the largest of which is 17 meters high. Work on this masterpiece began in 494 AD and continued until the 10th century.

Each sculpture tells the story of the development of Buddhism and Chinese art. Numerous inscriptions left by the imperial family, officials and monks provide an invaluable source of knowledge about ancient China.
