Description
The Tomb of the Unknown Soldier is one of Poland's most important national symbols, commemorating soldiers who died defending their homeland.
It is a fragment of the surviving colonnade of the Saxon Palace, where an eternal fire guarded by an honor guard burns. The memorial plaques are engraved with the names of the battlefields where Poles fought for independence.
This is an emotionally charged place where the most important state ceremonies are held. The tombstone bears the inscription: 'Here lies a Polish soldier fallen for the Fatherland'.
