Description
Grey Wethers are a unique pair of Bronze Age stone circles located on the slopes of Sittaford Tor in Dartmoor. The name comes from the appearance of the stones, which from a distance resemble grazing sheep (wethers).
These prehistoric monuments consist of about 50 granite blocks forming two circles just 4.5 meters apart.
The site is shrouded in fascinating legends - it is said that on the night of the summer solstice the stones turn into sheep, and if someone manages to sharpen one of them before sunrise, the fleece will turn into gold!
