Description
Château de Hohenbourg is a fascinating 13th century castle ruin located in French Alsace. Partially carved into the rock, it offers stunning examples of early 16th-century military architecture, including an impressive artillery tower and a beautiful Renaissance portal.
The terrace offers a breathtaking panoramic view of the Northern Vosges and the Palatinate. The castle was destroyed in 1680 on the orders of Louis XIV, but its ruins still tell the fascinating story of the Fleckenstein family and the site's strategic role in protecting the imperial route.
It takes about 35 minutes to reach the castle via a scenic trail marked with white diamonds in red circles.
