Description
Pont Saint-Bénézet is a medieval stone bridge in Avignon, also known as the Avignon Bridge. Originally built between 1177 and 1185, it offers a fascinating insight into medieval engineering and architecture.
This historic structure once consisted of 22 arches and stretched some 900 meters in length. Today, the preserved sections of the bridge provide a picturesque vantage point overlooking the Rhône River and the surrounding countryside.
The bridge is not only an architectural marvel, but also an important cultural symbol of the Provence region, inspiring a famous French folk song.
