Description
The Calanques National Park is a unique nature reserve located near Marseille. It is famous for its picturesque narrow bays (calanques) surrounded by limestone cliffs reaching up to 350 meters high.
It's a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts - rock climbing, hiking along the GR 98 trail or water sports like swimming, snorkeling and kayaking are just some of the options.
The park protects more than 140 terrestrial and 60 marine species, including rare insects, birds and reptiles like the European snake and pearl lizard. It also hides prehistoric caves with paintings, like the Cosquer Cave, which is inaccessible to the public.
