Bazylika Saint-Denis

The Basilica of Saint-Denis is the birthplace of Gothic architecture and one of Europe's most important monuments. It was here in the 12th century that Abbot Suger revolutionized construction by introducing pointed arches, ribbed vaults, and slender columns.

The interior impresses with monumental stained glass windows reaching almost to the floor, which flood the space with light. The nave rises 28 meters, and the impressive rose windows in the transept are 12 meters in diameter. The west facade with three portals is decorated with sculptures of kings and prophets.
