Description
Fort Bahla is a unique UNESCO-listed monument, the first fortress in Oman to receive this distinction.
Built between the 12th and 15th centuries by the Banu Nebhan tribe, it impresses with its impressive silt-brick architecture on stone foundations, round towers and crenellations.
The site is shrouded in legends - it is said that supernatural forces built a 13-kilometer wall around the city in one night! The oasis surrounding the fort, irrigated by a system of phalanxes, testifies to the advanced engineering skills of the ancient inhabitants.
