Fogo National Park

Fogo National Park is a protected volcanic area in Cape Verde, dominated by the active volcano Pico do Fogo, the highest peak in the archipelago (2,829 m above sea level).

The dramatic lava landscapes, endemic plants adapted to volcanic soil, and the Chã das Caldeiras caldera create an extraordinary scenery. Trekking trails lead through solidified lava fields, where local residents build houses from volcanic stone.

Coffee plantations cultivated on fertile volcanic soil contrast with the rugged craters, and black sandy beaches complete the unique character of this place.
