Description
Donnington Castle is a fascinating 14th-century fortress with a rich history. Built in 1386 on behalf of Sir Richard Abberbury, the castle was visited by King Henry VIII, Edward VI and Queen Elizabeth I.
Today you can admire the preserved entrance gate and the distinctive star-shaped earth fortifications added during the English Civil War, when the castle withstood an 18-month siege.
The hilltop offers picturesque views of the Lambourn Valley, perfect for nature and history lovers.
