Description
Deutschordensschloss is an impressive Teutonic Order castle in Bad Mergentheim, combining Romanesque, Renaissance and Baroque styles.
This 12th-century building, originally a fortified monastery, was transformed in the 16th century into the residence of the order's grand master.
Visitors can admire the magnificent 1574 spiral staircase designed by Blasius Berwart, a true masterpiece of Renaissance architecture.
The castle houses the Museum of the Teutonic Order with a rich collection of art and artifacts, and the surrounding beautiful gardens with a fountain and a statue of St. George fighting a dragon complete the historical experience.
