Description
Dashwood Mausoleum is a fascinating historical monument located at the top of West Wycombe Hill. This hexagonal, stepless building of local flint was designed on the model of the Arch of Constantine in Rome and is one of the largest mausoleums built in Europe since ancient times.
The structure hides intriguing stories related to the Dashwood family and the famous Hellfire Club. The central urn is dedicated to Sir Francis Dashwood's wife, and one of the urns contains the heart of poet and satirist Paul Whitehead.
This is a great place for lovers of architecture, history and 18th century mysteries.
