Description
Monument to the Partisan Woman is a moving monument located in the Biennale Gardens in Venice. Designed by Carlo Scarpa, with bronze sculpture by Augusto Murer, it commemorates the courage and sacrifice of women who fought in the Italian Resistance during World War II.
The monument depicts a dying woman emerging from the water, with her hands tied. Its location has a symbolic meaning - it is close to where the body of a partisan woman was found thrown into the water.
At low tide, the monument is partially submerged and uncovered, creating a unique dialogue with the sea and offering different perspectives to view this unique work of art.
