Description
The St. Nicholas Roundhouse in Cieszyn is one of the oldest and most valuable monuments in the Cieszyn region. This Romanesque building from the 11th-12th centuries, originally serving as a castle and defense chapel, impresses with its unique architecture on a circular plan with a horseshoe-shaped apse.
Erected from flat blocks of limestone, it reaches 15 meters in height and can be seen on the Polish 20 zloty banknote.
Every year on December 6, St. Nicholas Day, a solemn mass is held here. The rotunda is part of a larger historical complex, including the Piast Tower and the remains of the castle.
