Description
The Cathedral of the Blessed Virgin Mary in Toledo is a masterpiece of Gothic architecture that took almost three centuries (1227-1493) to build.
This five-nave temple was built on the site of a former mosque, combining Gothic and mudéjar styles. The north portal (Puerta del Reloj), modeled after Notre Dame in Paris, is stunning with reliefs from the New Testament.
The interior conceals priceless works by El Greco, Goya, Caravaggio and Rubens. Particularly impressive are the Mozarabic chapel and the nearly three-meter-high golden monstrance in the Chapel of St. John - a true gem for lovers of sacred art.
