Description
People's Square is a historic square in the heart of Ürümqi, the capital of Xinjiang region in China. The site has a rich history dating back to the Qing Dynasty, when it was a lotus pond.
Today, the square is adorned with a 32.6-meter monument commemorating the People's Liberation Army's entry into Xinjiang. It is surrounded by government buildings and the luxurious Hoi Tak Hotel.
It's a bustling place where you can sample local delicacies from the many stalls offering ice cream, fruit and kebabs. It makes an excellent starting point for exploring the city's other attractions.
