Description
The Dormition of the Blessed Virgin Mary Church in Szczebrzeszyn is the oldest surviving Orthodox church in Poland, dating back to the 16th century. Built on the foundations of a Romanesque building from the 12th-13th centuries, it combines a Renaissance style with a Neo-Gothic facade.
The interior impresses with valuable polychromes from the 16th and 17th centuries depicting scenes from the Apocalypse and the Temptation of Christ. A crypt with nine burials of Szczebrzeszyn's former owners was discovered in the chancel.
It is a unique place where history meets art, offering an unforgettable experience for lovers of architecture and cultural heritage.
