Description

The Catacombs of San Gennaro is a fascinating monument to Naples' early Christian history, dating back to the 2nd century AD. This vast complex of underground corridors hides extraordinary treasures of sacred art - ancient frescoes, mosaics dating back to the 5th century and the oldest known portrait of San Gennaro, the city's patron saint.

The two-level structure of the catacombs offers a unique journey through time - the lower level with pagan motifs and the upper level with the Crypt of the Bishops, where the first bishops of Naples rest. The spacious chambers do not induce a feeling of claustrophobia, and the constant temperature of 15-22°C ensures a comfortable visit.

It is a place where history, art and spirituality come together in an unforgettable way.
